“Heroes First: The Silent Courage and Sacrifice of Nurses”

Nursing students

At the Baptist School of Public Health Mutengene, we pause to honor nursing heroes who gave their lives in active service. When others stepped back in fear during Ebola, COVID‑19, and ongoing conflicts in the Northwest and Southwest regions, these nurses chose courage. They faced danger head‑on, often at the cost of their own lives, so that others might recover and live. Behind every healed patient stands a nurse who fought tirelessly for that recovery.

Today, we invite you to reflect:
1) On the nurses who are no longer with us, but whose legacy continues.
2) On yourself, will someone one day say you mentored them, inspired them, or helped shape their path in this noble profession?
3) Their journey may have ended, but their impact lives on. Let us celebrate these heroes, remember their sacrifice, and recommit ourselves to the values of service, compassion, and humanity.

Behind the Smiles these Heroes Carry the World

Nurses and Dean. Nurses are truly Heroes

Today’s chapel service was teary, moved by the heartfelt presentation of the Nursing students at the Baptist School of Public Health. Nurses truly are great. There is nobility in this profession, standing as frontline actors in the medical field. In the face of diseases, infections, tension, insults, and even the strangest scenarios, there is always a nurse putting their life on the line to save another.

Nurses are Resilient Heroes

Through nasty looks, weird smells, and the weight of patients’ personalities, nurses receive it all with a smile, while still figuring out their own lives. If you truly value and celebrate nurses, pause and appreciate one today. Humanity is remembered not by perfection, but by what we have done. Yes, nurses have shortcomings: pressure, insults, and personal struggles sometimes spill over. But that is why they need our support, not our fingers. “Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Matthew 7:3

So beyond their flaws, celebrate them. To all nurses giving their best, hiding pain behind broad smiles, fighting for their own lives while saving another , know this: you are loved, and humanity is grateful.
And please forgive us when we are naughty patients. Learn more about our nursing program and join us in celebrating the heroes who serve humanity daily.
Happy Nursing Week!
