WHAT DO MRT’S DO?
MRTs are versatile rehabilitation assistants trained in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and community-based rehabilitation. They work in hospitals, schools, NGOs, and communities to help people with disabilities walk, talk, learn, and live independently—equipping students with practical skills to restore independence and improve lives.

History & Background
About
The Multi-skilled Rehabilitation Technician (MRT) program was launched at the Baptist School of Public Health, Mutengene, in October 2022 to address the shortage of rehabilitation professionals in Cameroon. A 2017 survey highlighted serious gaps in training and service quality, and with nearly 15% of the population living with disabilities, the MRT program serves as a practical response aligned with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.”

about us
MRT IN CAMEROON’s CONTEXT
MRTs complement the works of CBR in the communities by adding basic speech, PT and OT
MRTs assess children and propose interventions to improve their functionalities (Sitting positions, eating, walking, sleeping, talking etc)
MRTs work in hospitals to alleviate pain and help persons with temporary or permanent disabilities with different kinds of issues (bones, sprains, stiffness, etc)
MRTs are very practical. While in hospitals, clinics, rehab centres, and NGOs, they work to support doctors, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists.
Since Cameroon lacks enough rehabilitation professionals, MRTs fill the gap by giving direct care and therapy support.
An MRT can help a stroke patient walk again (PT), guide a child with learning difficulties in school (OT), support speech recovery, and also assist families in communities (CBR)
MRT is a practical course that gives you many skills in one and prepares you to be a strong backbone of rehabilitation services, with skills that make you employable in hospitals, NGOs, schools and rehab centers
