Who Are Physiotherapists?
About
Physiotherapists are movement experts who help people recover from injuries, illness, or disability through exercise, massage, and other techniques. They improve mobility, reduce pain, and support people of all ages to live more active, independent lives.
Our Bachelor of Physiotherapy is a four-year program built on global (WPT) standards, equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and ethics to provide quality care in hospitals, communities, and beyond.

Physiotherapy in the context of Cameroon
In Cameroon, physiotherapy is an essential yet often under-recognized health service. Many people—especially in rural and underserved communities—live with untreated injuries, chronic pain, or disability due to limited access to rehabilitation services. Physiotherapists are changing this reality.
They work closely with:
- Children and youths with severe disabilities, helping improve mobility and daily functioning.
- Parents and caregivers, teaching them home-based exercises to support their children’s development.
- Young and elderly individuals with joint, bone, nerve, or muscle conditions, providing pain relief and improving quality of life.
Examples of physiotherapy in action in Cameroon:
- A young man injured in a motorbike accident can walk again through regular physiotherapy.
- A stroke patient who has lost the ability to move one side of their body can regain function with proper rehabilitation.
- Polio survivors or children born with physical disabilities can become more independent.
- Sports teams rely on physiotherapists to prevent injuries and keep athletes in peak condition.

Recognizing our patients as whole beings, we are dedicated to their social, psychological, spiritual, and physical well-being. We provide both preventive and curative therapy.
We are committed to honesty, dependability, and accountability in both our actions and communication.
We take joy in our work and are encouraged to pursue continuous improvements in patient care.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Program Description
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy program is a full-time, four-year degree designed to produce competent physical therapists capable of providing patient care across various settings and populations. This program aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for professional practice, allowing them to support individuals, groups, and communities in achieving optimal health and well-being.
Learning Outcomes
- Proficiency in areas relevant to physiotherapy, including neurology, musculoskeletal conditions, and mental health.
- Mastery of core subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Psychology, Sociology, and Research Methodology.
- Development of clinical skills through laboratory sessions, practicum experiences, supervised internships, and seminars.
- Ability to evaluate, apply, and conduct research to ensure evidence-based, effective physiotherapy practice.
cAREER SCOPE
Graduates can pursue careers in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, geriatric and nursing homes, schools, psychiatric hospitals, and community health clinics. Opportunities also exist in perioperative management and both in-patient and out-patient clinical settings
Course Curriculum
The curriculum emphasizes three realms of learning, ensuring that graduates are well-rounded and prepared to meet patients’ needs holistically.
Courses are designed to incorporate hands-on lab sessions, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life scenarios. This hands-on approach is critical for building practical skills in physiotherapy.
Starting from the first year, students are introduced to clinical settings, beginning with observational tasks and gradually increasing hands-on involvement under supervision. By the final internship, students are more independent but still guided by mentors.
Supervised internships expose students to a range of patient populations and healthcare environments. These experiences prepare students to take on varied roles within the field upon graduation.
Throughout the program, students attend seminars and special lectures, including interactions with specialists and virtual exchanges. These sessions foster collaboration, teamwork, and the exploration of contemporary practices in physiotherapy
Specialization
Students complete two research courses aimed at developing skills to critically evaluate published research and conduct their own studies. This ensures that graduates are capable of contributing to the field with evidence-based practice.
Students gain exposure to specific areas such as rehabilitation centers, perioperative management, and various patient populations (including those with socioeconomic and physical/mental health challenges), equipping them to work across different healthcare environments.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
A career in Physiotherapy provides a rewarding pathway with diverse opportunities to support patient health and recovery across different settings. Here are some potential career paths for those with a degree in Physiotherapy:
