The Rehabilitation Training Center of Excellence (RTCE) in Mutengene–Ombe recently welcomed representatives from the Liliane Foundation (LF) and AFAS Foundation, led by Angelique, along with the EDID Program team from CBCHS. This important visit focused on improving rehabilitation education and building stronger partnerships. RTCE Chair Dr. Ndasi and school leaders gave a full overview of the center’s programs and goals.
One of the main activities was reviewing the curriculum for Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID). The team discussed how to include feeding difficulties in training, combine courses to make education more affordable, and add new modules from the NPL project and STEP manual. These updates aim to make the curriculum more practical and inclusive for students working in real-life situations.
Students from Physiotherapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Multi-Skilled Rehabilitation Technician (MRT), and CBR programs joined hands-on sessions. They created therapy tools using local materials and played a game that helped them understand different stakeholders and roles in rehabilitation. CBR students also had a three-hour discussion to share experiences and ask questions about difficult cases they’ve faced.

Course heads and faculty met to brainstorm ideas for improving the skills labs. They talked about what equipment is needed and how to use the labs better with support from rehabilitation leads. The labs include spaces like the Multi-Skill Room, Community House, Gym Room, Anatomy and Physiology Practice Room, and Library all designed to help students turn theory into practice.
This visit showed the strong commitment of RTCE and its partners to improving rehabilitation training in Cameroon and the region. With continued support from LF, AFAS, and EDID, RTCE is building a future where students are well-prepared to serve people with disabilities and promote inclusion in their communities.
